Ranchi, September 25, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening the protection of citizens’ personal data, the Jharkhand Government organized a special workshop on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 at the New Auditorium, Project Bhawan, Dhurwa, Ranchi.
The workshop was organized by C-DAC, Kolkata, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, in coordination with the Department of Information Technology and e-Governance, Government of Jharkhand.
Protecting Citizens’ Data is a Top Priority
Addressing the workshop, IT Director Madhavi Mishra said that the primary objective of the DPDP Act is to ensure the protection of citizens’ personal data.
She said citizens share their personal information with the government based on trust, and protecting that trust is a major responsibility. With the rapid expansion of digital governance, new challenges related to data privacy and security are also emerging, making awareness and compliance among government officials essential.
Focus on Data Fiduciary Responsibilities
The workshop provided detailed information on key provisions of the DPDP Act and Rules, including the responsibilities of Data Fiduciaries and the rights of Data Principals.
Experts also discussed Consent Management, grievance redressal, data breaches, legal procedures and Privacy by Design, highlighting the need for stronger privacy governance across government services.
Practical Training Through Case Studies and Interactive Sessions
Officials received practical training through presentations, case studies and interactive sessions. The sessions focused on strengthening cybersecurity measures, protecting sensitive information and minimizing the risks associated with data breaches.
C-DAC Executive Director Mr. Mrinmoy Das and Executive Director from Hyderabad Dr. Chas Murthy shared their insights on various aspects of data policy and privacy governance. Former GC Cyber Law, MeitY, Dr. Sandeep Chatterjee, also participated in the programme online.
Stronger Privacy Governance for Digital India
Speakers emphasized that effective implementation of data protection laws is increasingly important with the rapid expansion of Digital India. Government departments were encouraged to adopt high standards of transparency, accountability, data security and privacy.
Participants described the workshop as highly useful and emphasized the need for regular training programmes to strengthen data protection and privacy governance across government departments.
