Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has closed contempt proceedings initiated against the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of 14 districts in the state. Justice Rajesh Shankar, sitting in a single bench, passed the order while hearing Contempt Petition No. 269/2024 filed by Praduman Prasad Sahu and others.
The petition was filed by Simaria residents of Chatra district—Praduman Prasad Sahu, Dilip Kumar, Gopal Sao and Sudeep Kumar Gupta. They had sought initiation of contempt proceedings against the Deputy Commissioners of 14 districts, including Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Chatra, Koderma, Dumka, Pakur, Deoghar, Sahibganj, Jamtara, Godda, Ramgarh and Hazaribagh.
The petitioners alleged that the concerned authorities had deliberately failed to comply with the High Court’s order dated October 17, 2023, passed in W.P.(S) No. 1896/2022.
Government Says Claims Were Reconsidered
During the hearing, the counsel appearing for the state government informed the court that, in compliance with the High Court’s earlier order, the applications and claims of the petitioners had been reconsidered.
During the review, it was found that the petitioners had secured fewer marks than the last selected candidates in the respective categories. Consequently, their claims for appointment as Assistant Teachers were rejected in accordance with the applicable rules.
Court Accepts Compliance Report
The court accepted the show-cause affidavit and compliance report submitted by the state government and held that the earlier order had been complied with.
Accordingly, the High Court closed the contempt proceedings
However, the court granted the petitioners liberty to pursue other legal remedies available to them under law if they are dissatisfied with the rejection orders passed after reconsideration.
