Ranchi, September 11, 2026: Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar has said that voters residing in Jharkhand who were born or previously lived in another state can submit valid documents issued by their respective state authorities for verification of their age, place of birth and family details.

He clarified that such documents do not necessarily have to be issued in Jharkhand. During the claims and objections process under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, voters who receive a notice seeking documents for verification can submit documents prescribed as valid by the Election Commission of India for the SIR from their respective states.

K. Ravi Kumar said that for a person to be included in the electoral roll, the individual must be an Indian citizen, ordinarily residing in the concerned constituency and must have attained the age of 18 years as on the qualifying date. For the current SIR, the qualifying date is October 1, 2026.

For verification of place of birth, age or family relationships, voters can submit documents such as genealogical records, family lists issued by competent authorities, Khatiyan records, educational certificates and other documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India for the SIR. The documents will be examined by the concerned Electoral Registration Officer as per the prescribed procedure.

The Chief Electoral Officer appealed to voters who receive notices to appear for the hearing within the stipulated time and submit all available valid documents. He also directed election officials to examine the documents according to the rules and ensure decisions on eligibility are taken through the prescribed process.

He said the objective is to ensure that no eligible Indian citizen is deprived of inclusion in the electoral roll, while ensuring that no ineligible or foreign person is included.
