Major Police Crackdown on Brown Sugar Smugglers in Ranchi; 4 Arrested with 159.03 Grams of Brown Sugar
Ranchi, July 14. In a major operation against the drug trade, Ranchi police arrested four brown sugar smugglers red-handed in the Doranda police station area. Acting on a tip-off received by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and under the instructions of the Superintendent of Police (City), a special raid team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Hatia, conducted operations at Kusai Jatra Ground and Saket Nagar, Hinoo, on July 13, 2026.
During the raids, the police arrested Deepak Bhuiyan, Naresh Kumar, Mahesh Kumar, and Sandeep Kumar Dangi. Recovered from their possession were 1,444 packets of brown sugar (total weight 159.03 grams), ₹58,100 in cash, and three mobile phones.
According to the police, all the arrested individuals had long been involved in the buying and selling of brown sugar in the area. Acting on the secret information, the police simultaneously raided the entire network, leaving the accused with no opportunity to escape.
The operation was led by Senior DSP (Hatia) Neeraj Kumar. The raid team included Doranda Station House Officer (SHO) Ritesh Kumar Mahto, along with several other police officers and personnel from the station; their swift action ensured the operation's success.
The police have registered a case against all the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Efforts are also underway to determine the source of the brown sugar consignments and identify the other individuals involved in the racket. Ranchi Police has stated clearly that the campaign against the drug trade in the district will continue, and strict action will be taken against such criminals.
