Major Energy Deal Between India and Australia: Uranium Supply to Bolster India's Nuclear Capability
A significant agreement regarding nuclear energy has been signed between India and Australia during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country. This pact paves the way for easier access to Australian uranium for India.
Uranium is used to generate nuclear power; this supply will assist India in producing cleaner and superior energy.
Australia possesses some of the world's largest uranium reserves. Previously, India faced challenges in securing uranium supplies due to various regulatory and political factors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that this agreement would help advance India's clean energy goals and further strengthen bilateral ties.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese noted that the supply of uranium to India would boost non-fossil fuel-based power generation.
Both nations have clarified that the uranium will be used exclusively for peaceful purposes and electricity generation. The entire process will be conducted in accordance with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations.
