Cheating Scandal in Teacher Recruitment Exam: Accused Invigilator Denied Bail
Ranchi: The Ranchi Civil Court has rejected the bail plea of Avinash Kumar (alias Avnish Kumar), an invigilator accused of facilitating cheating and engaging in irregularities during the Jharkhand Trained Secondary Teacher Combined Competitive Examination-2025. The court of Additional Judicial Commissioner (AJC-1) Yogesh Kumar refused to grant bail, deeming the matter serious.
According to reports, a cheat sheet was recovered from a candidate during the examination held on May 8, 2026, at the Virupaksha Digital Hub exam center in Mahalong. Subsequently, investigative agencies examined the center's CCTV footage, revealing several crucial facts.
The investigation allegedly found that the invigilator posted at the center, Avinash Kumar, along with another individual named Alok Kumar Singh, would take the candidates' admit cards, insert cheat sheets into them, and return them. The statement of the candidate caught in the act and the CCTV footage have been considered vital evidence.
During the hearing, the court observed that the allegation of facilitating cheating in a competitive examination is extremely serious and impacts the future of lakhs of hardworking candidates. The court also noted that, prima facie, the available evidence points towards the accused's involvement.
In its order, the court stated that this constitutes a serious offense under the Jharkhand Competitive Examination (Prevention and Redressal of Unfair Means) Act, which provides for penalties ranging from 10 years of imprisonment to life imprisonment. Consequently, as the accused failed to meet the legal criteria for bail, his regular bail petition was rejected.
