New Direction for Innovation and Livelihood Generation in the Tussar Sector; Union Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao Visits CTRTI, Ranchi

Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary to the Government of India's Ministry of Textiles, visited the CSB–Central Tussar Research and Training Institute (CTRTI), Ranchi, on Friday. She was accompanied during the visit by Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts); Seema Mishra, Director (Handicrafts); and Vishal Sagar, Director of the Department of Industries, Government of Jharkhand.
All guests were welcomed by the Institute's Director, S. Balasaraswathi. During the visit, the Secretary toured the Institute's museum and exhibition area, where Tussar silk reeling machines, Tussar yarns, and Tussar silk fabrics were on display. The exhibition also showcased achievements in research, innovation, and technological advancements undertaken within the Tussar sector.
As part of the program, a stakeholder interaction meeting was organized with seed rearers (ASR), reelers, and SAMARTH trainees. The beneficiaries shared their experiences regarding skill development, self-employment, and livelihood enhancement facilitated through Tussar sericulture. Certificates were also distributed to the SAMARTH trainees on this occasion.
Union Secretary Neelam Shami Rao lauded the efforts being undertaken by CTRTI, Ranchi, towards technology dissemination, capacity building, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for those associated with the sericulture sector.
Dr. J.P. Pandey, Scientist-D at CSB-BTSSO, Bilaspur, also played a significant role in the successful organization of the event.
