Major Relief for Lalu Yadav from Ranchi CBI Court: Passport Released for Medical Checkup in Singapore
Ranchi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, a convict in the high-profile Fodder Scam case, has received significant relief from the CBI court in Ranchi. The court of Additional Judicial Commissioner Akhilesh Kumar Tiwari has granted permission for the release of his passport, enabling him to travel to Singapore in the first week of June for a routine medical checkup.
According to reports, an application seeking the release of his passport was filed in court on behalf of Lalu Prasad Yadav. The application stated that he needed to travel to Singapore for a regular health checkup. After hearing the matter, the court issued an order for the release of the passport.
It was noted that the court had previously granted him permission to travel abroad for a kidney transplant and medical examinations. He underwent a kidney transplant in December 2022 at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
Notably, Lalu Prasad Yadav stands convicted in the widely publicized Fodder Scam case. He has been sentenced in various cases involving fraudulent withdrawals from the Doranda, Chaibasa, Deoghar, and Dumka treasuries. This scam involved fraudulent withdrawals from government treasuries between the years 1990 and 1996. Among these, the Doranda Treasury case is the most prominent, involving fraudulent withdrawals amounting to approximately ₹139 crore.
