📰 Launch of Fire Safety Week: Awareness and Training Program Organized at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi

Ranchi: A state-level program was organized at the Sadar Hospital premises in Ranchi on the occasion of Fire Safety Week (May 4 to May 10, 2026). The program was inaugurated by Shashi Prakash Jha, Campaign Director of the National Health Mission (NHM).

On this occasion, doctors, healthcare workers, and staff members were administered a fire safety pledge. Through this pledge, a message was conveyed regarding the prevention of fire-related accidents, the need for a rapid response during emergencies, and the importance of remaining vigilant regarding safety measures.

The theme for Fire Safety Week this year is:

“Safe Schools, Safe Hospitals, and a Fire Safety-Aware Society – Collective Efforts for Fire Prevention.”

During the program, emphasis was placed on the need for all health institutions to remain vigilant and ensure strict adherence to safety standards. Additionally, an appeal was made to ensure participation in a webinar series scheduled to be held daily from 3:00 PM between May 5 and May 7.

The Campaign Director called upon all district hospitals and health centers to observe Fire Safety Week with seriousness, disseminate awareness, and ensure active participation in the prescribed activities. He stated that preventing fire incidents within hospitals and ensuring an effective response during emergencies is of paramount importance.

During the event, all health institutions were instructed to conduct fire safety assessments and upload the corresponding reports to the IHIP portal. Furthermore, strong emphasis was placed on making fire safety audits mandatory and ensuring the availability and functional readiness of fire-fighting equipment.

To enhance awareness, various activities such as poster competitions, quizzes, exit planning exercises, mock drills, and training sessions are scheduled to be organized. During these sessions, fire safety personnel also provided information regarding the PASS (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) and RACE (Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Extinguish) techniques.

In a related development, an orientation program was also organized for newly appointed healthcare workers under the aegis of the National Health Mission. During this session, ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) and Lab Technicians were briefed on various health programs. Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar administered the fire safety pledge to all attendees. The program was attended by Dr. Praveen Karna and Atinder Upadhyay from the state level, as well as Dr. Bimlesh Singh, District Program Manager Praveen Kumar Singh, Hospital Manager Shahnawaz, and District Program Coordinator Preeti from the district level, along with numerous healthcare workers and students from the ANM school.
