Avoid Stepping Out in the Sun Between 11 AM and 4 PM: Irfan Ansari
Jharkhand: In view of the continuously rising temperatures and the severe heatwave situation prevailing in the state, Irfan Ansari has appealed to the public to exercise special caution. He stated that the current weather conditions are not merely a matter of ordinary summer heat but could potentially evolve into a health crisis. Consequently, there is an urgent need for people to remain vigilant and adhere to all necessary health-related precautions.
The Health Minister remarked, "A small precaution can save your life and the lives of your loved ones. While the government stands prepared to tackle any situation, public awareness and cooperation remain our greatest strength."
The Minister informed that all government hospitals, district hospitals (Sadar Hospitals), Community Health Centers, and Primary Health Centers across the state have been placed on high alert. All Civil Surgeons and health officials have been directed to ensure that emergency medical arrangements—specifically for cases of heatstroke, dehydration, sunburn, and heat exhaustion—are kept fully operational and in readiness.
Hospitals have been stocked with ORS, essential medicines, IV fluids, and emergency beds; furthermore, cooling facilities and medical teams have been placed on alert mode to ensure that patients receive immediate treatment.
Appealing to the public, Dr. Irfan Ansari urged people to step out of their homes only if absolutely necessary. He advised avoiding direct exposure to sunlight and the heatwave between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. He recommended consuming ample quantities of water, ORS, lemon water, buttermilk, and other fluids. When venturing out in the sun, he emphasized the importance of covering one's head with a *gamcha* (cotton towel), a cap, a cloth, or an umbrella, and strictly advised against stepping out on an empty stomach.
He appealed for special care to be taken of children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals suffering from chronic illnesses. Additionally, he advised people to immediately contact the nearest health center if they experience symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, high fever, fainting, or extreme weakness.
The Minister also appealed to the public to make arrangements for providing water to animals and birds. Furthermore, he noted that, in keeping with rural traditions, people may also observe precautionary measures such as carrying an onion in their pocket when stepping out.
Issuing directives to the concerned departments and the district administration, the Health Minister instructed the Health Department to ensure that the "Heatwave Response System" remains fully active across all hospitals. The Drinking Water Department must ensure an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water, while the Electricity Department should maintain special vigilance to ensure a continuous power supply.
Furthermore, urban local bodies have been directed to set up drinking water facilities and temporary relief centers at bus stands, markets, and public places, while the district administration has been instructed to conduct comprehensive awareness campaigns.
In conclusion, Dr. Irfan Ansari stated, “This is a time for vigilance, sensitivity, and collective responsibility. The government, the administration, and the general public must work together to prevent any loss of life and ensure the safety of every citizen.”
