“Have Patience; Panchsheel Nagar Will Not Flood This Time” — Raushni Khalkho
Panchsheel Nagar Chowk in Ranchi city has recently been making headlines due to the serious issue of encroachment upon the drainage system. Despite surveys having been conducted years ago, the growing lack of concrete action against illegally constructed permanent structures has led to mounting outrage among local residents.
Panchsheel Nagar Chowk and its surrounding areas—Radha Nagar and Shanti Nagar—grapple with the severe problem of waterlogging during every monsoon season. Residents state that encroachments on the drains obstruct the flow of water, causing floodwaters to enter homes and submerge roads. The situation often deteriorates to such an extent that even the National Highway is affected, and emergency services—such as ambulances—get stuck in traffic jams.
A correspondent from *M Bharat 24 News LIVE* prominently highlighted this entire issue, consistently publishing reports that successfully drew the administration's attention to the matter. Following the broadcast of these reports, the Municipal Corporation also shifted into "alert mode."
Given the gravity of the situation, Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri conducted a surprise inspection of the encroachment site at approximately 11:00 PM. Following the inspection, the matter was formally placed on the Corporation's agenda to initiate action against the illegal structures. However, as no concrete action has yet been observed on the ground, a sense of dissatisfaction prevails among the general public. Residents allege that the matter has once again been shelved.
When questioned regarding this issue, Ranchi Mayor Raushni Khalkho offered assurances, stating that the Municipal Corporation is taking the matter seriously and that the process of taking action is currently underway. She remarked, “Have patience; Panchsheel Nagar will not flood this time.”
For now, the public's eyes remain fixed on the administration's next course of action. If the encroachments are not cleared in a timely manner, the situation could become even more dire during the upcoming monsoon season.
