Law and Order Collapses in Jharkhand: BJP Launches Sharp Attack on Hemant Government
Ranchi | April 1, 2026:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the state government over the deteriorating law and order situation in Jharkhand. Speaking at a press conference held at the state headquarters on Wednesday, the party's state spokesperson, Pratul Shahdeo, stated that law and order in the state has completely collapsed, and the general public feels unsafe.
Issuing a sharp statement, Pratul Shahdeo remarked, “The situation has become such that it feels as though 'Rahman Dacoit' is roaming freely in every street.” He alleged that crime in the state has reached its peak and that the government has proven to be a complete failure in controlling it.
BJP Attacks Over Crime Statistics
Citing data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the Jharkhand Police, the BJP spokesperson highlighted that between January 2020 and January 2026, the state witnessed:
10,113 cases of rape
Over 11,000 kidnappings
More than 60,000 thefts
9,213 murders
A total of 2.80 lakh cognizable crimes were registered.
He asserted that these figures make it evident that crime in the state is constantly on the rise, and the situation has reached a critical point—likened to "water rising above one's head."
Allegations of "Mafia Raj
Pratul Shahdeo also targeted the government regarding the theft of sand, coal, and iron ore within the state. He alleged that illegal mining and smuggling on such a massive scale would be impossible without government patronage. Furthermore, citing a statement made by a Congress party in-charge, he noted that even leaders within the ruling alliance themselves have expressed concern over the state of law and order.
Questions Raised Over the Justice System and Police
The BJP also raised questions regarding the functioning of the police force. Pratul stated that the conviction rate for criminals remains extremely low, particularly in serious cases such as rape. He emphasized that unless the guilty are handed down strict punishments, it will be difficult to curb crime effectively. **Advice to the Police.
During a press conference, a BJP spokesperson appealed to the Jharkhand Police, urging them to take concrete action to win the public's trust, strengthen their intelligence network, and launch a rigorous campaign against crime. He asserted that law and order would not improve merely by purchasing new vehicles; rather, strict enforcement at the grassroots level is essential.
