Republic Day Call to Uphold the Spirit of the Constitution: Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato
The Speaker recalled that with the enforcement of the Constitution on 26 January 1950, the people of India gained the right to shape their own future after centuries of colonial rule. He said this achievement was the result of the long, difficult and sacrifice-filled freedom struggle. The freedom fighters, he noted, envisioned not only political independence but a nation founded on justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
Referring to Dr B R Ambedkar, Shri Mahato emphasised the need to continuously reflect on social and economic inequalities even after achieving political equality. He paid tribute to Jharkhand’s legendary freedom fighters, including Tilka Manjhi, Sidho-Kanhu, Nilambar-Pitambar and Birsa Munda, whose struggles continue to inspire future generations.
The Speaker said development becomes meaningful only when its benefits reach the last person in society. He stressed that social justice, equal opportunity and constitutional values are the foundation of a strong and inclusive democracy. He concluded by extending warm Republic Day greetings to all.
