Hindalco's 'Poor Quality' Blanket Row: District Administration Refuses Distribution, Company Evades Responsibility

Hindalco's 'Poor Quality' Blanket Row: District Administration Refuses Distribution, Company Evades Responsibility

Lohardaga: A major controversy has erupted over 1,000 blankets provided by the industrial giant Hindalco to the district administration under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The district administration and the Social Welfare Department have raised serious questions regarding the quality of these blankets, which were intended to provide relief to the poor during the bone-chilling cold.

Administration's Tough Stand: "Won't Distribute Substandard Blankets"

The matter escalated when the Social Welfare Department and top district officials inspected the blankets. According to the officials, the quality is extremely poor and substandard. The administration clearly stated that such 'shoddy' material would not be distributed under the government banner, calling it a mockery of the poor. Consequently, the administration ordered the Hindalco management to immediately remove the blankets from the government premises.

Blankets Still Dumped in Government Building, Orders Ignored

The current situation reveals that despite clear orders, these 1,000 blankets remain dumped in the district administration building. As of the time of reporting, the company has not bothered to remove them, highlighting a blatant disregard for administrative directives.

Plans to Offload in Pakhar?

Meanwhile, sources reveal a significant development: after being rejected by the district administration, the Hindalco management is reportedly planning to "adjust" or offload these substandard blankets through a program in Pakhar. It is being discussed that since the plan to distribute them under the government banner failed, the company now intends to fulfill its quota by distributing them in its private events.

M Bharat 24 News Investigation and Company’s Defense

When the special correspondent of M Bharat 24 News Live questioned Hindalco management about this negligence, local officials were seen evading the queries. Eventually, Rajiv, the media representative in Ranchi, defended the company over the phone, stating:

"Hindalco's 60-year history has been commendable. Substandard blankets could not have been supplied; currently, we have no information regarding this matter."

Playing with the Rights of the Poor?

While the severe cold continues to lash the region, a standoff has emerged between the industrial house and the administration over quality. The administration maintains that it cannot provide materials to the poor that do not meet basic standards. It remains to be seen whether the company will take concrete steps to save its reputation or if the controversy will deepen further.
