Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has ordered an immediate stay on the police investigation and all further proceedings in the criminal case registered against two officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Ranchi Zonal Office. The court also directed the Union Home Secretary to ensure security for the ED office by deploying CISF, BSF, or any other paramilitary force. Justice S.K. Dwivedi stated that the SSP Ranchi will be directly responsible for any untoward incident on the ED office premises and ordered that all CCTV footage be preserved.
According to the ED, Santosh Kumar—an accused in an alleged ₹23 crore government fund embezzlement case—hurt himself during questioning and later filed an FIR accusing ED officials of assault. The High Court has ordered that Santosh Kumar be made a party to the case and has sought an affidavit from the state government. The next hearing is scheduled for February 9.
