Our Culture and Tradition Are Rich: Dr. Tarachand

“India Is a Confluence of Many Cultures”

Deputy Commissioner addresses district-level cultural event marking 25 years of Jharkhand’s formation

Date: 16 November 2025

Lohardaga: A district-level cultural programme was organised today at the Nagar Bhavan to celebrate the completion of 25 years of Jharkhand’s statehood.

The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tarachand through the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Students from various schools presented iconic folk and traditional dance forms representing different regions of the state.

“Jharkhand’s Cultural Heritage Is Vast and Remarkably Rich” — DC

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tarachand said that the culture and traditions of Jharkhand are exceptionally rich. India’s diverse regions embody different cultural identities, making the country a true confluence of varied traditions.

He added that no other nation in the world holds such immense cultural diversity.

He highlighted that Jharkhand is home to 32 tribal communities. It is the land of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and has witnessed historic movements such as the Santal Rebellion. The state is a living archive of heritage, customs, and traditions.

“Here, Speech Becomes Music and Movement Becomes Dance”

Dr. Tarachand remarked that every corner of Jharkhand reflects art and culture, saying that here speaking turns into music and walking turns into dance.

He stated that the 25-year journey of the state had been challenging. While much progress has been achieved, several areas still require focused development.

He emphasised the need to preserve and promote Jharkhand’s cultural identity, encouraging people to regularly wear their traditional attire, just as communities in South India do. He also stressed showcasing local traditions on the national platform.

He added that documentaries and films based on tribal culture should be produced and that newspapers should publish regular articles on tribal history, customs, attire, food culture, rituals, and lifestyle.
