Marandi Targets State Govt Over “Illegal DGP Appointment”; Alleges Corruption, Extortion and Wrongdoing

Ranchi. BJP State President and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi once again launched a sharp attack on the Hemant Soren government, alleging serious irregularities behind the appointment and service extension of former DGP Anurag Gupta.

Speaking to the media, Marandi claimed that the State government must explain why Anurag Gupta was suspended, then appointed DGP, later given a service extension, and finally allowed to resign.

He alleged that the sequence raises questions and the public “deserves to know the truth”.

Marandi’s Allegations Against Former DGP Anurag Gupta

Marandi claimed that the developments surrounding Gupta indicate a nexus involving:

  • Illegal extortion
  • Smuggling operations
  • Illegal mining
  • Racket-driven collections & intimidation

He alleged that several individuals—Inspector Ganesh Singh, constable Ranjeet Rana, middleman Manoj Gupta and “Kishan Ji” from Haryana—were “empowered” during Gupta’s tenure and no action was taken against them.

Marandi accused the government of “protecting corruption and the corrupt”.

Remarks on Liquor Scam and CBI Action

Marandi said he had written to the Chief Minister about the alleged liquor scam but received no response. He claimed that the State’s inaction opened the way for CBI intervention, eventually leading to the arrest of IAS officer Vinay Choubey.

He further alleged that the government “facilitated bail” by not filing the chargesheet within the stipulated period.

Allegation on Cough Syrup Racket

He accused the State government of ignoring illegal cough syrup trafficking, adding that when Gujarat authorities intervened, the former DGP allegedly attempted to influence the case through a CID inquiry.

Claims of Interference and Threats

Marandi alleged that:

  • Gupta removed documents from his office overnight after being shifted from CID/SIT
  • Sensitive information was copied onto pen drives
  • Gupta “threatened” the Chief Minister
  • Even now, he is allegedly calling from Delhi and Haryana to influence matters

He also claimed that notorious criminals received “favours”, citing the example of Sujit Sinha’s jail placement in Palamu and alleged meetings of criminals inside confidential branches.

“Why No Inquiry?” — Marandi Questions Govt

He questioned why no official inquiry has been initiated so far, suggesting that “financial considerations” might be behind the silence.

Marandi said:

“The resignation of the DGP and absence of inquiry clearly indicate a dispute over share.”

He added that some officials were turning into “tools” of the government and advised them to work strictly within legal boundaries.

Sarcasm Directed at the Chief Minister

Marandi concluded with a sharp remark:

“If the Chief Minister trusts him so much, he should appoint Anurag Gupta as his advisor.”

Media team members Yogendra Pratap Singh and Pratul Shah Deo were also present at the press conference.
