India–Eurasian Economic Union Reviews Free Trade Agreement Negotiations in Moscow
India and the five-nation Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) reviewed the progress of negotiations on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in the goods sector during a meeting held in Moscow. The proposed agreement aims to strengthen economic cooperation and expand trade relations between India and EAEU member states.
Detailed Review of Negotiation Progress
According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal participated in several high-level meetings in Moscow to assess the status of FTA discussions. During the visit, he met:
- Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade, Eurasian Economic Commission
- Mikhail Yurim, Deputy Minister of Industry & Trade, Russian Federation
The Commerce Secretary also addressed a business networking plenary session attended by representatives from Indian and Russian industry.
Companies Encouraged to Align Projects with 2030 Trade Targets
In his meeting with Minister Slepnev, Rajesh Agrawal reviewed the next steps for the India–EAEU FTA in the goods sector. Addressing the industry conference, he urged companies from both countries to align their projects with the bilateral trade target set for 2030.
18-Month Work Plan Outlined
The Ministry stated that the Terms of Reference (ToR), signed on 20 August 2025, outline an 18-month work plan. The objective of this plan is to diversify markets for Indian businesses, including MSMEs, farmers, and fishermen, as negotiations for the FTA progress.
