DC Dr. Tarachand urges farmers to avail 50% subsidised seeds for Rabi crops

Lohardaga, 17 November 2025.
According to Press Release No. 645 issued by the District Public Relations Office, Lohardaga, the 15th edition of the Panchayit Kar Goith programme was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tarachand. Key discussions were held on agriculture, education, social reforms and reducing migration from the district.

50% Subsidised Seeds for Rabi Crops — A Major Opportunity for Farmers

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all Panchayat heads to encourage farmers to cultivate Rabi crops. He informed that:

  • Under the Seed Exchange Scheme, farmers are getting high-quality Rabi crop seeds at a 50% subsidised rate.
  • The seeds undergo multi-level quality checks.
  • If seeds turn out to be faulty or crop yield is low, compensation is available.
  • Purchasing from private companies often becomes costly for farmers.

He also highlighted that under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, farmers can get loans at only 6% interest.

Formation of FPOs Will Help Farmers Get Better Prices

Dr. Tarachand urged farmers to cultivate available land and form Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs):

  • FPOs help in getting better market prices for agricultural produce.
  • If the annual transaction of an FPO is satisfactory, the government provides maximum grant support, which does not need to be returned.
  • For this, the FPO must be three years old with standard transactions during that period.

Reducing Migration — “Produce a Single Crop at Larger Scale”

The Deputy Commissioner said migration is a major issue in the district.
To reduce it:

  • Farmers should produce the same crop in larger quantities to get better prices.
  • Small-scale scattered production does not bring profit.
  • The district administration will provide complete support for organised production.

Boulder Check Dams to Resolve Water Scarcity

Panchayat representatives raised concerns regarding irrigation water shortages.
Responding to this, the DC said:

  • Being a hilly region, most rainwater flows downhill.
  • Boulder check dams can help store this water, which can then be used for irrigation.

Anganwadi Centres Must Open Regularly; Children Must Receive Nutrition

The DC issued instructions:

  • All Anganwadi centres must open regularly.
  • Children must receive meals as per standards.
  • No child should be deprived of schooling.
  • Children must attend the Panchayat Knowledge Centres regularly.

Eradicate Child Marriage, Witchcraft Practices & Substance Abuse

Calling for social reforms, the Deputy Commissioner said:

  • Child marriage and witchcraft practices must be eliminated.
  • Those promoting such practices must face social resistance.
  • People should be discouraged from substance abuse.
  • No one should prepare or sell local liquor.

He also emphasised:

  • Regular meetings with health teams.
  • Monitoring pregnant women’s health and children’s vaccination.
  • Ensuring benefits of PM Matru Vandana Yojana and Janani Suraksha Yojana.
  • Making Ayushman Cards for all eligible families.
  • Encouraging pending leprosy screening.

Interaction with Students at Knowledge Centres

The DC visited Knowledge Centres in Betahat and Rampur Panchayats and interacted with students.
Students expressed gratitude for the study facilities provided.
The DC encouraged them to study sincerely.
