Cultivating opium is a crime and punishable: Rajesh Kumar Sinha

Ranchi: Under the directions of JHALSA and the guidance of the Judicial Commissioner, a legal awareness programme was organised at Chipra village under Nagri Block by the District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi, in collaboration with the Law Department of RKDF University. The programme was conducted under the supervision of DLSA Secretary Ravi Kumar Bhaskar.

The event was attended by Deputy LADC Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Dean of Faculty of Law of RKDF University Amrita Sudan Chakravarty, Head of Law Department Amit Jha, Assistant Professor Aman Kumar, Ritika Swaroop, Dean of Economics Abhishek Vaibhav, students, the Mukhiya and Deputy Mukhiya of Chipra Panchayat, PLVs Reena Linda, Pankaj Kumar, Rita Mahli, Raja Verma and several villagers.

Students of RKDF University performed a street play on dowry and female foeticide. Through the play, villagers were informed that dowry is a serious social offence and were made aware of preventive measures.

Deputy LADC Rajesh Kumar Sinha provided detailed information about the provisions of free legal aid. He explained the Dowry Prohibition Act, Child Marriage Act, Child Labour Act, POCSO Act, the Right to Education, and Article 21A of the Constitution. He also highlighted NALSA’s Dawn Scheme and urged villagers to stay away from drugs, stating that addiction destroys families.

Sinha discussed the NDPS Act in brief and informed villagers about its sections and the strict punishments prescribed under it. He clearly stated that cultivating opium in one’s field is a crime and carries severe punishment. He also shared the toll-free number 1933 related to drug de-addiction and NALSA’s helpline number 15100.

Sinha further informed the gathering about the upcoming special Lok Adalat on 29 November for electricity-related cases and the National Lok Adalat scheduled for 13 December. He added that litigants may get their cases settled on these dates.

Officials from RKDF University also addressed the participants during the programme.
