Compensation Distributed for Crop and House Damage Caused by Wild Animals in Jharkhand

Jharkhand/Ranchi(M Bharat 24 News Live): Jharkhand’s Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey addressed a program on Friday at the Ranchi Forest Plantation Area, Bedo, where compensation for crop and house damage caused by wild animals was distributed along with an environmental awareness initiative.

The minister emphasized that forest department officials need to understand the importance of forests in tribal customs and rituals. She noted that often villagers face legal action even for bringing tree branches home, which she called unjust. She clarified that no one can take away the rights of villagers as provided under forest conservation laws.

Shilpi Neha Tirkey highlighted that deforestation in Jharkhand has increased conflicts between humans and wild animals. Incidents of elephants, leopards, and bears entering residential areas and causing damage to crops and houses are examples of this rising tension.

During the event, demand drafts of compensation were distributed among the affected families from Bedo, Itki, and Lapung blocks. The minister stated that the compensation would help reduce the losses and hardships faced by the families. She also stressed the need to understand the balance between forests, land, and life, as life, traditions, and culture are closely linked to land and forests.

The program was attended by Ranchi Forest Division Officer Shrikant Verma, Deputy Chief Muddasir Haq, Block Presidents Karma Uranv and Ramesh Mahli, Bedo Block Officer, Circle Officers, and other officials.
