The purpose of Sudesh Mahto's visit to Bengal was to meet with the families of those arrested during the Rail-Teka movement in Kotshila, Purulia district, on September 20. Forty-nine men and two women were arrested during the protest. The families reported that women were also lathi-charged during the incident.
Meeting with the families of the victims in Jivdaru village in Kotshila, Sudesh stated that the AJSU Party would bear the entire cost of their legal battle. He assured them that the party stands with them at every level. He questioned why the Bengal government and police are so afraid of him that they are repeatedly stopping him.
Addressing the gathering, he said that governance does not mean suppressing the people, but serving them. If the government starts intimidating them, then understand that the people have awakened. Sudesh said that the Kurmi community wants a peaceful resolution of their demands, but they are being suppressed.
MP Chandraprakash Choudhary described the ban on entry of AJSU leaders by the Bengal police as a violation of democratic rights. He appealed to the people not to be afraid and to raise their voices to protect their rights. He said that the demands of the Kurmi community are within the ambit of the Constitution.
Party's Central General Secretary Hare Lal Mahato, Jaipal Singh, Sunil Singh and other workers were present on the occasion.
