As part of the ongoing anti-Naxal campaign in Jharkhand, continuous action is being taken against the CPI (Maoist) cadres. Inspired by the government's new initiatives in the anti-Naxal campaign, a hardcore CPI (Maoist) Naxalite couple surrendered and returned to the mainstream at a program held at the Giridih Police Headquarters in the presence of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Amit Singh of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Deputy Commissioner Ram Niwas Yadav of Giridih, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Vimal Kumar.
According to the police, Shivlal Hembram, alias Shiva, is a member of the area committee, while his wife, Sarita Hansda, alias Urmila, is an active member of the notorious Naxalite Vivek Da's squad from Pirtand, Giridih. A total of 15 cases are registered against them in Dumri, Madhuban, Khukhra, and Pirtand areas. Of these, 11 cases are against Shiva and four cases are against his wife, Sarita. Both are residents of the Khukhra police station area of Giridih district.
After surrendering, both will receive a rehabilitation amount of ₹50,000 each from the state government under the "Disha Ek Nayi Pehal" policy. They will also be provided with other benefits.
During a program held at police headquarters, the CRPF DIG stated that the Jharkhand bandh called by the marginalized Naxalite organization on October 20th is meaningless. He added that there is still time for the remaining Naxalites to return to the mainstream and live peacefully.
It is worth noting that the Parasnath area in Giridih, Jharkhand, was once so deeply under the shadow of the Red Terror that the forests and mountains were considered a stronghold of Naxalites. The Parasnath area used to be the Naxalite's safest haven, where they operated a parallel regime. However, joint operations by the Jharkhand Police, CRPF, and Intelligence Bureau (IB) have almost completely destroyed this Red Corridor. Within a year, 12 of the 15 wanted Naxalites have been killed in encounters. Following the killing of Sahdev Soren, a Naxalite with a bounty of Rs 1 crore, on September 15th, Naxalite influence in this area has virtually ended.
