Target to eradicate leprosy from Jharkhand by the year 2027: Dr Anil

Jharkhand/Ranchi: A training program was organized on the Nikushth-2 portal on Thursday at the State Leprosy Office Auditorium, Namkum of the National Health Mission, Jharkhand. This training was done under the National Leprosy Eradication Program (NLEP), in which health workers and representatives from various districts of the state participated.

Inaugurating the program, State Leprosy Prevention Officer Dr Anil Kumar said that the Government of India has resolved to eradicate leprosy by the year 2027. Along with government efforts, public participation is also necessary in this direction. He said that the Nikushth-2 portal will further strengthen the health system as a digital tool and will help in ensuring respectful and effective treatment to leprosy patients.

He informed that in view of the quality of data collected from across the country in the last one year, now the work of managing leprosy medicine Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) is also being started through the Nikushth-2 portal. Jharkhand has been selected as the pilot project of this scheme and one representative will be nominated for this from each district of the state.

During the training, Dr Karuna Nidhi Kaur and Dr Shweta Rana, consultants of Leprosy Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, gave detailed information about the use of the portal, data entry, monitoring and reporting process.

On this occasion, BFO-cum-Admin Officer Ranjit Pathak, Abhishek Paul of WHO and other officers and employees were present.
