Kathmandu: During the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in Tianjin, China, the time for Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been fixed, apart from the meeting with the heads of state of various countries there. This will be the third meeting between the Prime Ministers of the two countries.
The Prime Minister's Secretariat has given information about this meeting with the Indian Prime Minister during the SCO summit starting from August 31. Prime Minister's chief political advisor Vishnu Rimal said that this meeting has been decided to take place on the sidelines of the meeting with the Nepal and Indian Prime Ministers on September one in Tianjin.
While India is going to participate in the SCO as a main member country, Nepal is going to be represented at the Prime Minister level for the first time as a dialogue partner. This year, China is organizing the SCO summit as SCO Plus, in which apart from the main member countries, all observer countries and dialogue partner countries have also been invited.
Prime Minister Oli's chief political advisor said that Nepal had requested for a meeting with Prime Minister Modi, which New Delhi has accepted. He said that this meeting, which will be held on the sidelines of the meeting in China before Prime Minister Oli's formal meeting with India, is going to be very important. Oli is going to go on a formal visit to India from September 16.
Oli's first meeting with Indian Prime Minister Modi took place for the first time in September last year during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. After this, the second meeting took place during the BIMSTEC summit held in Bangkok in April this year. Now this third meeting has been scheduled on the sidelines of the meeting in Tianjin, China.
Nepal Prime Minister Oli's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Modi in China is also considered important because there is diplomatic tension in Nepal over the recent agreement between India and China. All the parties of Nepal have requested the Prime Minister to immediately start diplomatic dialogue with both India and China regarding this agreement.
