Possibility of stormy rain in West Bengal, yellow alert issued

Kolkata: Due to the effect of deep low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal, rain and thunderstorms are expected in many parts of West Bengal for the next few days. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain and strong winds blowing at a speed of thirty to forty kilometers per hour in many districts of South Bengal including Kolkata till Friday. There is a possibility of rain and gusty winds in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram and Bankura districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

    Heavy rain may occur in South 24 Parganas on Thursday. Heavy rain is expected in East Burdwan, Murshidabad, Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur districts on Friday. In North Bengal, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar on Tuesday. The intensity of rain will increase in North Bengal from Wednesday. Heavy rains are expected in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on Thursday and Friday. The intensity of rain is expected to decrease on Saturday and Sunday.

   Due to rough seas, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen in the North Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of West Bengal not to venture into the sea till August 22. Kolkata may witness light to moderate rains and thundershowers at some places on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday, the city's maximum temperature was recorded at 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 26.4 degrees Celsius. Humidity will remain between 69 and 95 percent. The city's temperature is expected to remain between 27 and 31 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.
