Digging a well after a fire is the government's policy: Saryu Rai

Jamshedpur:  Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Rai has said that in the process of shifting MGM Hospital from the old building in Sakchi to the new building near Dimna Chowk, the hospital management and the district administration should ensure that all the necessary arrangements for running the hospital are made there as soon as possible. It should not be that the hospital is shifted to the new building and the necessary arrangements for running the hospital remain half-finished there. Keeping this in mind, a time limit should be fixed for the complete transfer of the hospital. There should be no provision of water for the operation of the hospital in the new building. There should be a complete solution to solve the problem of water.

Mr. Rai, who joined the review meeting held in the new building of the hospital for some time, clearly told the officials that it would not be possible to take water from the Mango drinking water project for the operation of the hospital at present. His argument was that the amount of water arranged in this project is not enough to reach all the areas of Mango. In many areas, water is supplied for 10-15 minutes. There are many areas where pipelines have been laid but water is not reaching there. There are also some areas where water comes only on one day and not on the other. Keeping this in mind, an alternative water supply should be made to run the hospital in the new MGM building. Mr. Rai said that either the administration should take water from the pipeline going from Dimna Lake to Tata Steel's water treatment plant and supply it to the hospital after cleaning it. The second option could be that water for the hospital should be arranged from Satnala Dam located in Dobo.

According to Mr. Rai, the officials of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department present in the meeting informed that after using the Mango drinking water project in the Mango Municipal Corporation area, there is no water left, which can be given to the hospital or for other purposes. The officials present in the review meeting informed that they have got ten deep borings done in the premises of the new hospital building, which can supply about 3 lakh liters of water per day. A new scheme is being implemented by the Health Department in which water will be drawn from Swarnarekha and brought to the water treatment plant built in the hospital premises. This scheme is expected to be completed by September 2025.

Mr. Rai told them that the OPD of various departments of the hospital is coming here first and the hospital cannot be fully operated in the new building without fulfilling the technical requirements to shift the entire hospital to the new building. Before completely shifting the hospital, it should be tested so that all the arrangements made here can work smoothly. He said that till now the water being received from the boring is sufficient for the arrangements to be made in two-three months. Therefore, it would be impractical to think about cutting the rights of the beneficiaries of the Mango Drinking Water Project and bringing their share of water to the hospital. If the hospital management and the district administration are thinking like this, then they will have to change their thinking.

He said that the objective of the Mango Drinking Water Project is to provide drinking water to the citizens of Mango, which is not being completed yet. The work of supplying drinking water from Baliguma tank has not even started yet. Only the pipeline has been laid and left. In such a situation, it will not be appropriate to use the water of Mango drinking water project in the hospital. He expressed hope that the hospital management and the district administration will change their thinking.

Saryu Rai said that if the old building of MGM hospital has become dilapidated and even after the new building is about to be completed, water has not been arranged there, then the state government is responsible for this. Digging a well after a fire has become the policy of this government. Due to this, there is a problem in shifting the hospital from the old building of MGM hospital to the new building. There should be a permanent solution to this.
