Driving License System in Jharkhand to Go High-Tech; Modern IDTR to be Established in Collaboration with Tata Motors

The state government has taken a significant step towards modernizing driving training, road safety, and the licensing system in Jharkhand. In the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday at the Jharkhand Mantralaya between the Transport Department and Tata Motors Limited to establish an Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Jamshedpur.
The Chief Minister stated that the establishment of this modern driving training institute would provide the state's youth with training aligned with global standards, thereby enhancing their employability and helping to reduce road accidents. He described this as a crucial and visionary initiative for Jharkhand's transport sector.
During the event, the Chief Minister interacted directly with beneficiaries from various districts via video conferencing to gather information about the driving and learning license process. He instructed officials to ensure that the license issuance process is completely simple, transparent, and time-bound, and that pending applications are disposed of promptly. Particular emphasis was placed on simplifying the process for obtaining heavy vehicle driving licenses.
The Chief Minister affirmed the state government's commitment to providing greater opportunities for women in the transport sector. He directed officials to make driving training and the licensing process more accessible to women, enabling them to engage in employment and self-employment through skill development.
He noted that driving and learning licenses are being issued to over 10,000 citizens simultaneously across the state, marking a significant step towards making transport services more citizen-friendly and transparent.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the IDTR, established in collaboration with Tata Motors, would emerge as a major hub for road safety, driver training, skill development, and research in the future, while also creating new employment opportunities for the youth of Jharkhand.
Several senior officials were present on the occasion, including Minister Deepak Birua, Development Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh, Secretary Rajiv Ranjan, Transport Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Besra, Tata Motors Plant Head Anurag Chharia, and General Manager Golam Mandal.
