The process for free admission to 25% of seats in private schools under the RTE is underway, with the application deadline set for March 15th
Ranchi: Under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, the process for free admission to 25% of seats in the first grade (grade 1 or pre-primary) in recognized private schools in Ranchi district for children from disadvantaged groups and weaker sections is underway. The online application process for the 2026-27 academic session is being conducted through the portal www.rteranchi.in, with the deadline set for March 15th, 2026.
According to the district administration, a total of 1,161 reserved seats have been announced in the district's 117 recognized private schools. So far, applications have been received on the portal from 383 students for 1,059 seats. However, many schools have received fewer applications than the number of vacant seats, with 24 schools receiving no applications.
On March 7th, on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri, a block-wise application review meeting was held with all Block Program Officers (BPOs) at the district level. The review found that applications in schools in rural areas were low. In light of this, instructions have been given to conduct awareness campaigns in Gram Sabhas, Anganwadi centers, Panchayats, and at the local level.
Block-wise nodal officers have also been designated to monitor the process. The district administration has appealed to parents to take advantage of this scheme by applying on the portal by March 15th, so that economically weaker and disadvantaged children can receive free education in private schools.
