Ranchi Police foils smuggling bid towards Bengal; accused used jungle routes to avoid law enforcement.
Ranchi:
Ranchi Police has achieved a major success against cattle smuggling. A total of 58 bovine animals (bulls), which were being illegally transported towards Bengal, have been seized from the Silli police station area. In connection with this case, 9 cattle smugglers have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
📌 Incident Details
On December 30, 2025, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi, received confidential information that approximately 50-60 cattle (bulls) were being transported by cattle smugglers towards Bengal via the Banta Hajam-Shyamnagar route under the Silli police station limits.
To verify the information and take necessary action, a raiding team from Silli Police Station was formed under the control of the Superintendent of Police, Rural, and led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Silli.
🚓 Raid and Arrests
* When the raiding team reached the Tungri Maidan near Hajam Tola Jaynagar village, using the dirt road leading to Banta Hajam-Shyamnagar, they observed several individuals herding a group of about 50-60 cattle (bulls) and taking them towards Bengal via Shyamnagar village.
* The police promptly seized a total of 58 bulls, following the due procedure of preparing a seizure list.
* The seized bulls were immediately handed over to the Panchayat representative on a trusteeship deed (Jimmenama).
* Nine cattle smugglers were also arrested from the spot.

* Unjal Oraon (Age 58 years)
💬 Confession During Interrogation
During questioning, the arrested accused confessed that due to increased police vigilance, they were using fields and jungle routes to transport the animals to Bengal, where they would sell them to butchers at high prices.
📜 Case Details
A case (Silli P.S. Case No. 113/25, dated 30/12/25) has been registered under Section 317(5)/325/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 12 of the Jharkhand Bovine Animal Prohibition of Slaughter Act, 2005.
