Lohardaga Team Shines at State-Level Millet-Based Cooking Competition, Felicitated by DC

The Lohardaga district team delivered an outstanding performance at the state-level millet-based cooking competition, securing the runner-up position across the state. In recognition of this achievement, Deputy Commissioner Lohardaga Dr. Tarachand felicitated the members of the Mother Committee of PM SHRI Government Upgraded Middle School, Nawadi Pada, by presenting bouquets and shawls.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of millets, stating that they are not only highly beneficial for health but also play a vital role in the overall physical and mental development of children. He emphasised increasing the use of millets under the Mid-Day Meal scheme in schools.

The state-level millet-based food preparation competition was organised at the District School, Ranchi, where nutritious and delicious dishes made from ragi, maize, jowar, and bajra were showcased. The cook-cum-helpers of PM SHRI Government Upgraded Middle School, Nawadi Pada, participated enthusiastically and demonstrated excellence in preparing quality, nutritious meals despite limited resources.

Impressed by the quality, nutritional value, and presentation of the dishes, the judging panel awarded the team the runner-up title. Notably, the team had earlier secured first positions at the cluster, block, and district levels before advancing to the state-level competition.

Speaking on the occasion, cooks Yamuna Devi, Pushpa Devi, Suman Devi, and Sunita Devi said that innovation in meal preparation is essential to encourage children to consume millets with taste. They added that regular consumption of millet-based meals at the school has helped children remain healthy and energetic.

The programme was attended by District Education Superintendent Abhijit Kumar, Headmaster Arun Ram, Science Teacher Rahul Kumar, along with members of the school family and the School Management Committee.
