Administration Takes Tough Stand on Water Conservation, Encroachment to Be Removed from All Water Bodies in Ranchi

Ranchi |

The Ranchi district administration has adopted a strict approach towards water conservation and environmental protection. In this connection, an important online meeting was held on December 16, 2025, via the Zoom platform under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri, with all concerned district-level officers.

The meeting was attended online by Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar) Ranchi Utkarsh Kumar, Additional Collector Ranchi Ramnarayan Singh, Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Rajeshwar Nath Alok, along with all Circle Officers.

The primary objective of the meeting was to ensure complete removal of encroachments from various water bodies in Ranchi district and to prepare a concrete action plan for the long-term conservation of water resources.

The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the current status of major water bodies including Kanke Dam, Hatia Dam, Getalsud Dam, Harmu River, Hinu River, as well as other ponds and water sources in the district. Detailed information was sought from revenue and circle officers regarding existing encroachments, actions taken so far, and future strategies.

The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that illegal encroachments around water bodies will not be tolerated under any circumstances. All concerned departments were instructed to carry out joint drives and expedite the removal process. The Additional Collector was directed to prepare a roster for Circle Officers and ensure regular inspections. Emphasis was also laid on demarcating the original boundaries of water bodies as per revenue records and protecting the encroachment-free areas.

Stressing the importance of water conservation, the Deputy Commissioner said that encroachments not only reduce water storage capacity but also adversely affect the environment and groundwater levels. The district administration is fully committed to making all water bodies in Ranchi encroachment-free and ensuring their protection and beautification.

The district administration has also appealed to citizens not to carry out any encroachment around water bodies and to extend full cooperation in the water conservation drive.
