Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has rejected the review petition filed by candidate Nagendra Nath Parihari challenging the appointment process. A division bench comprising Chief Justice M.S. Sonak and Justice Arun Kumar Rai refused to condone the delay of 555 days, stating that the petitioner had failed to provide sufficient reasons for the delay. The court also noted that no supporting documents were submitted to substantiate the claim that candidates with lower marks had been appointed.
The petitioner had filed LPA No. 48/2024 challenging the single bench order dated January 8, 2024. The division bench dismissed the appeal on April 23, 2024. Subsequently, the petitioner approached the Supreme Court through a Special Leave Petition (SLP), which was dismissed on August 14, 2024. Nearly 16 months later, on December 17, 2025, he filed a review petition before the High Court. The petitioner cited information about the appointment of candidates with lower marks in the EBC-I and BC-II categories, illness, and delays in collecting affidavits from his former advocate as reasons for the delay.
The division bench found these explanations insufficient, observing that no documents were produced to support the alleged appointments and that the petitioner had not specified when he learned about them. The explanation regarding illness was also found to be vague and unverifiable. The court observed that a detailed examination of the merits of the case was not appropriate while considering an application for condonation of delay. Accordingly, the application seeking condonation of delay was rejected, and the review petition was disposed of as infructuous.
