Unchained Pet Animals Increasing the Risk of Road Accidents
Daily sight near OTC Ground and adjoining lanes; rising concern among commuters
Ranchi: The city has been witnessing a steady rise in road accidents due to various reasons—over speeding, wrongful overtaking, and poor traffic management—but one major and often ignored cause is pet animals roaming freely on the roads without a chain. This issue is especially visible around OTC Ground and the lanes behind it, where such animals frequently come in the way of vehicles, causing drivers to lose balance.
Residents say that sudden appearances of these animals force bike riders and car drivers to make abrupt turns or brakes, increasing the chances of accidents—and many incidents have already taken place. The risk becomes even higher during evening and night hours when visibility is low, making it harder to spot animals on the road.
Locals also report that sometimes these uncontrolled animals even chase children, causing panic as kids run frightened through the lanes. Meanwhile, the owners casually describe their animals as “friendly,” ignoring the potential danger.
Rules clearly state that leaving pet animals on the road without control is punishable, yet negligence by owners continues. Residents have urged the municipal authorities to take immediate action and impose fines on irresponsible owners to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
