Two convicted in advocate Gopi Krishna murder case; sentence to be pronounced on November 18

Jharkhand/Ranchi: A major verdict was delivered on Tuesday in the murder case of civil court advocate Gopi Krishna, a resident of Mahuatoli, Madhukam under Sukhdeonagar police station area of Ranchi. The court of Additional Judicial Commissioner-18 held two accused, Roshan Munda and Sandeep Kalindi, guilty in the case. However, the third accused, Khemlal Kalindi, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The court has fixed November 18 as the date for hearing on the quantum of punishment for the convicted duo.

The incident:

The brutal murder took place on August 2, 2024, when advocate Gopi Krishna was standing near his house. Suddenly, one of the assailants attacked him, stabbing a knife deep into the middle of his head. He was rushed to RIMS, where doctors later removed the knife from his skull, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The Ranchi police acted swiftly, arresting all three accused within three days of the incident, on August 5, 2024, and sent them to jail.

Reactions:

Expressing satisfaction over the verdict, District Bar Association General Secretary Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi said that justice has been served to the family. He stated that he has been in constant touch with the victim’s wife, offering support. Vidrohi demanded the maximum punishment, including the death penalty, for the convicts so that it sends a strong message to society.

He further added that the verdict reflects the unity of the legal fraternity, and the advocates’ community demands the harshest possible punishment for those found guilty.
