Jharkhand/Ranchi: Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri held a meeting with representatives of the Tana Bhagat community in the Collectorate auditorium on Tuesday.
Tana Bhagats from five to six districts, including Ranchi, were present at the meeting. They presented their various demands and problems to the Deputy Commissioner.
The Deputy Commissioner listened to all demands seriously and assured legal solutions.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the government and the district administration are committed to addressing the problems of the Tana Bhagats sensitively. He said that if the Tana Bhagats and the administration work together on practical and legal solutions, a permanent solution to all issues is possible.
Tana Bhagats can eradicate evils
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the Tana Bhagats have made invaluable contributions to the freedom struggle and social construction. He said that all of you fought for independence from the British, and now the time has come for all of us to fight against drug abuse, alcoholism, and social evils. The Deputy Commissioner stated that drug addiction, opium cultivation, witch-hunting, quackery under the guise of herbs, and Hadiya (local liquor) are currently weakening society. If the Tana Bhagats are determined, these evils can be eradicated from society. The Deputy Commissioner stated that just as the Tana Bhagats fought against the British with truth, non-violence, and discipline, the same confidence must now be used to free society from drug addiction, superstition, and social evils. This is true patriotism and social service.
Bhajantri stated that the Tana Bhagats are an ascetic and disciplined community and, by collaborating with the administration, they can bring about positive change in society. The district administration will work dedicatedly to meet their demands.
Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Rajeshwarnath Alok, District Public Relations Officer Urvashi Pandey, and Assistant Settlement Officer were present at the meeting.
