Gyanesh Kumar stated in a press conference held at Vigyan Bhawan on Monday that voting will take place on November 6 for 121 seats in the first phase and on November 11 for 122 seats in the second phase. The Bihar Assembly elections will be conducted with complete transparency and peace. The state has a total of 7.43 crore voters, including 3.92 crore men, 3.50 crore women, and 1,725 transgender voters. Additionally, there are 7.2 lakh disabled voters, 4.04 lakh voters above 85 years of age, 14,000 voters above 100 years of age, and 1.63 lakh service voters. The state has 14.01 lakh voters aged 18 to 19 and 1.63 crore voters aged 20 to 29. Approximately 1.4 lakh voters will vote for the first time in this election. Voter cards will be provided to new voters within 15 days.
The Chief Election Commissioner stated that a total of 90,712 polling stations have been set up in the state, of which 76,801 are in rural areas and 13,911 in urban areas. Each polling station will have an average of 818 voters. Additionally, 292 disabled, 38 youth, and 1,044 women-operated polling stations have been set up. Additionally, 1,350 model polling stations will be established. Webcasting facilities will be available at all polling stations to ensure monitoring.
He stated that Bihar has set an example for the entire country in terms of voter list purification. The voter lists have been updated under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). After the draft list was published, all political parties and citizens were given the opportunity to file claims and objections. The final voter list was published on September 30. Names can be added to the voter list until 10 days before the last date of nomination, but no new names will be added after the final list is released.
The Bihar Legislative Assembly has a total of 243 seats, of which 38 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and two for Scheduled Tribes (ST). The term of the current Legislative Assembly ends on November 22, 2025. Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi were also present at the Election Commission's press conference. The Chief Election Commissioner expressed confidence that the entire team of the Commission and the state administration will work together to conduct fair, safe, and transparent elections in Bihar.
