Lucknow Cantonment Gets Development Projects Worth Over Rs 100 Crore, Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath Lay Foundation Stones
Lucknow, August 30, 2026: In a major push to strengthen infrastructure and public amenities in Lucknow Cantonment, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday laid the foundation stones for 14 development projects worth more than Rs 100 crore.
The projects are aimed at improving civic amenities, education, healthcare, sports facilities, sanitation, cleanliness, water supply and urban infrastructure in the cantonment area. Two of the projects are being implemented with the support of the Uttar Pradesh government.
Among the key projects are an Artificial Intelligence-based solid waste management plant, a multipurpose sports complex, a modern crematorium and a 1,500-kilolitre underground water reservoir.
The development plan also includes replacement of old and damaged water supply pipelines, construction of eight tubewells equipped with SCADA automation and an SCADA-enabled overhead water tank. A special school for children with disabilities will also be developed in Lucknow Cantonment.
Additional classrooms and toilets will be constructed at RA Bazaar Secondary School and Rainbow Model School. The projects also include a multi-level robotic car parking facility with a commercial complex, besides initiatives for heritage waste bio-mining and bio-remediation.
Two major projects being implemented with the support of the state government are the RA Bazaar City Polyclinic and the Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Coaching Centre. These initiatives are expected to improve access to healthcare and provide better educational support to students and youth preparing for competitive examinations.
Rajnath Singh Highlights Vision of Developed India
Addressing the gathering, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the development of Lucknow Cantonment is closely linked with the overall progress of Lucknow. He emphasised that coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state government can accelerate development and strengthen good governance.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, Rajnath Singh said development should not be limited to large infrastructure projects and modern buildings.
He said a developed India must also ensure quality education for children, clean drinking water for every household, opportunities for young people to participate in sports and showcase their talent, and an inclusive environment where children with disabilities do not feel isolated from society.
The Defence Minister reiterated that the government is committed to bringing tangible improvements in the quality of life of citizens through development.
Cantonment Markets Renamed After National Heroes
Rajnath Singh also highlighted the renaming of several markets in Lucknow Cantonment. He said names associated with the British era have been replaced with the names of prominent personalities associated with India’s freedom struggle and national life.
Royal Artillery Bazaar has been renamed Ekta Bazaar, British Cavalry Bazaar as Uda Devi Bazaar, and British Infantry Bazaar as Matadin Valmiki Bazaar. Another British Infantry Bazaar has been renamed Mangal Pandey Bazaar, while Kennedy Bazaar has been renamed Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bazaar.
The Defence Minister said the initiative is aimed at connecting future generations with India’s heritage and inspiring them towards national service.
Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath Listen to ‘Mann Ki Baat’
During the programme, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also listened to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ along with around 4,000 people.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister of State Asim Arun, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Command Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharwal, Director General of Defence Estates Shobha Gupta, HAL CMD Ravi K., BEL CMD Manoj Jain, and senior officials from the Armed Forces, Central and state governments and Lucknow Cantonment Board were also present on the occasion.
