Jharkhand/Ranchi: Officials of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation Tenants Association met with officials of the Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber building to discuss the difficulties being faced due to the delay in resolving the rent dispute for shops at Bazar Tand. They requested their intervention in the matter. They explained that traders were settled in Bazar Tand years ago, before the corporation even existed. At that time, the corporation only allotted land to shopkeepers to increase revenue, and the shopkeepers constructed the structures at their own expense. In light of the corporation's orders, shopkeepers pay taxes to the corporation commensurate with the construction. Despite this, shops are not being transferred to the license holder's name after their death or in the event of a family member separating from them. Forced penalties and additional interest are being imposed on the penalties, and traders are being threatened with sealing their shops if they fail to pay them, causing mental distress.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, Chamber President Aditya Malhotra assured the Municipal Administrator that he would soon meet with the Municipal Administrator to find a permanent solution to the problem. He expressed his displeasure, stating that despite the Chamber's repeated discussions with the Municipal Corporation, the failure to resolve the issue reflects departmental indifference. Traders are angry and suffering from unnecessary inconvenience. He appealed to the Municipal Corporation to take initiative to resolve this long-standing problem by implementing a popular rent settlement scheme. A decision should also be taken to grant ownership rights to shopkeepers, which will generate crores of rupees in revenue for the Corporation.
During the discussions, it was decided that if the Corporation does not act promptly within 15 days, traders will be forced to protest against the Corporation's functioning. Chamber President Aditya Malhotra, Executive Member Mukesh Agarwal, former President Kishore Mantri, Municipal Corporation Tenant Association Secretary Shankar Jha, and other traders were present at the meeting.
