Jharkhand/Giridih: Mother Durga, the mother of the universe, who bestows her devotees with desired results in various forms during the final four days of Sharadiya Navratri, was given an emotional farewell on Vijayadashami with chants of "Jai Durga." Idols of Goddess Durga installed by Durga Puja committees in various areas of the district were immersed in traditional rituals on Friday, accompanied by the accompaniment of drums, dhak, nagadas, and musical instruments. Earlier on Thursday, idols installed at approximately 12 locations were immersed. These included Barganda Kali Manda, Sri Sri Adi Durga Manda, Gandhi Chowk Durga Manda, Pachamba Garhmanda, Mohanpur, and the Old Jail Bhawan Durga Manda, among others.
The idols were immersed in the Barwadih Mansarokar reservoir. Meanwhile, on Friday, amid intermittent rain throughout the day, thousands of male and female devotees from all walks of life participated in the immersion procession. Prior to this, a crowd of women gathered at the puja pavilion to offer ki ichcha and apply vermilion to the Goddess.
After offering khoicha to Goddess Durga, the women first applied vermilion to the Goddess and then exchanged pleasantries with each other. As the idols emerged from the pandals at dusk, people became emotional. With moist eyes, they bid farewell to Goddess Durga, chanting, "Come again next year!".
During immersion, there is often a risk of a major accident. Keeping this in mind, the district administration made extensive security arrangements by deploying soldiers and an NDRF team around the pond.
The immersion of idols continued until late Thursday night at the Barwadih Man Sarovar pond. Jharkhand government minister Sudibya Kumar Sonu and
Top officials from the district and police administration stayed late into the night to bid farewell to the mother with folded hands.
