Coldref, Rapifresh, and Relife cough syrups banned in Jharkhand

Jharkhand/Ranchi: Following the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan due to cough syrups, Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has banned the use and sale of Coldref, Rapifresh, and Relife syrups in Jharkhand. The Health Department issued a notification to this effect on Monday.

The Health Minister stated that any tampering with health will not be tolerated. Ansari directed drug control officers and drug inspectors in all districts to collect samples of suspicious cough syrups from medical stores and pharmaceutical companies in the state. He directed these samples to be tested in a laboratory to identify harmful or substandard medicines. Action should be taken to immediately seize and destroy any identified cough syrups.

He also directed that all doctors and pharmacists exercise utmost caution when prescribing medicines to patients and strictly adhere to the regulations.

The minister stated that the health department is on full alert regarding the matter. Constant monitoring is being conducted from the district level to the state headquarters to ensure that no harmful drugs reach the public in Jharkhand. He added that negligence at any level will not be tolerated in this matter.
