Tribal organizations to stage dharna on 20th against Kurmi's Rail Roko protest

Jharkhand/Ranchi: Many tribals of Jharkhand will stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan on 20th September in protest against the Rail Roko campaign to include Kurmi-Kudumi communities in the Tribal List (ST) in Jharkhand.

In this regard, many tribal, Sarna community organizations gave information in a joint press conference at Central Dhumkudia in Karamtoli on Monday. On the occasion, Central Sarna Committee President Phoolchand Tirkey said that it has been decided to stage a dharna in response to the Rail Teka movement called by the Kurmis on 20th September.

He said that the demand to include Kurmi-Kudumi community in the Tribal List is not only an attempt to fabricate fake history. Rather, this decision of the Kurmi community is a direct attack on the rights and existence of the tribal society. Therefore, the upcoming Maha Dharna on 20th September will prove to be a decisive step towards protecting the tribal identity.

On the occasion, women president of Central Sarna Committee Nisha Bhagat and W Munda said that the demand of Kurmi-Kurmi to become tribal will put the land and existence of tribals in danger. They clearly said that if the government ignores the tribals, then a large scale agitation will be organized to warn the central government.

On the other hand, women president of Jai Adivasi Central Council Niranjana Herenj Toppo said that if the central and BJP government supports Kurmis, then the tribal society will be forced to launch a fierce agitation. Rajesh Linda of My Mati Sanskriti Bachao Morcha said that Jharkhand belongs to the tribals and will remain so.

On the occasion, Laxmi Narayan Munda said that the Kurmi society is misleading its own society and is conspiring to rob the rights of the tribals. Social worker Kundarsi Munda said that if Kurmis become tribals, then the reservation, land and rights of the tribals will be snatched away from them.

Before this, tribal organizations held a meeting. The meeting was chaired by tribal intellectual Laxmi Narayan Munda.

The speakers on the occasion described the demand to include Kurmi-Kudumi community in the tribal list as an attempt to fabricate fake history. It was said that this decision of the Kurmi community will be considered a direct attack on the rights and existence of the tribal society. Many organization representatives including Amar Tirki, Harshita Munda, Lakshmi Munda, Sunil Toppo, Ajay Khalkho, Ratan Oraon, Prakash Munda were prominently present in the press conference.
