Washington: America's top general has met European defense chiefs here. According to a defense official, President Donald J. Trump's top military adviser General Dan Kane met several military chiefs from Europe on Tuesday evening. This meeting took place at a time when Trump indicated that there could be a NATO-led peacekeeping force in Ukraine.

According to the agency, ABC News, Kane's discussions with European defense chiefs are understood to have included his counterparts from Germany, Britain, France, Finland and Italy. It is reported that NATO military chiefs are to hold discussions through video conferencing on Wednesday. This online discussion will be led by General Alexus Grinkevich. Grinkevich is America's top commander in Europe and serves as NATO's senior military commander. Kane will also be involved in it.

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt reiterated President Trump's statement that no US ground troops would be deployed in Ukraine, but the US would help coordinate security guarantees. Levitt said, "The President understands that security guarantees are extremely important to ensure lasting peace. He has instructed the national security team to coordinate with friends in Europe and also continue cooperation and discussion on these matters with Ukraine and Russia."

According to the agency, The New York Times, a White House spokeswoman said Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to meet Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. European leaders have also held talks a day after the White House meeting. The discussion showed few signs of concrete progress towards ending the war in Ukraine.
