New Delhi: The Delhi High Court refused to hear a petition seeking a ban on mobile apps promoting gambling and betting. Chief Justice DK Upadhyay's bench allowed the petitioner to make a representation to the appropriate authority on this issue.
During the hearing, the lawyer appearing for the petitioner referred to the recently introduced law regulating online games and said that this law does not have a provision to deal properly with issues like gambling and betting. He said that the new law is limited only to money games, while the petition has sought a ban on online betting and gambling. The new law is silent on betting and gambling. He said that online betting and gambling are being operated from Google and Apple Store.
During the hearing, the court said that you should first put your point before the competent authority and say that even the new law will not be able to curb online betting and gambling. Then the court said that if the authority does not do anything then we will see. Then the petitioner said that he had submitted a representation to the competent authority in the month of April but no action was taken. Then the court said that since the new law has come into force, you should once again submit a representation to the competent authority. The competent authority will respond to this and will take action on it soon.
