Ranchi: Former state minister Enos Ekka, his wife Menon Ekka (including nine others) convicted in a 15-year-old case of violation of CNT Act, were sentenced to four to seven years of imprisonment by the court of CBI Special Judge SN Tiwari on Saturday. Along with this, a fine of up to Rs 2.60 lakh has been imposed on the accused. The court has sentenced Enos Ekka and Menon Ekka to seven years of imprisonment. Along with this, a fine of Rs 2.10 lakh and Rs 2.60 lakh has been imposed on both of them respectively. If the fine is not paid, they will have to serve additional 14 months and 17 months in jail. At the same time, the then LRDCC Kartik Kumar Prabhat, Mani Lal Mahato and Brajeshwar Mahato were sentenced to five years of imprisonment each. Whereas Anil Kumar, Raj Kishore Singh, Firoz Akhtar and Brajesh Mishra have been sentenced to four years of imprisonment each. The court has imposed a fine of Rs 2.10 lakh on these accused. If they do not pay, they will have to serve additional 14 months in jail. The court has given the above mentioned fine to the nine accused. On Friday, the accused was convicted. On Saturday, during the hearing on the point of punishment, nine accused lodged in jail were presented before the judge through video conferencing and were sentenced one by one. Public Prosecutor Davinder Pal Sood, on behalf of CBI, demanded maximum punishment from the court for the culprits. He said that from where did he buy land worth crores of rupees immediately after becoming a minister. There is solid evidence. Maximum punishment should be given.
CBI had registered FIR in 2010
On the orders of Jharkhand High Court, CBI had registered FIR against Enos Ekka and others on 4 August 2010. CBI, after completing the investigation, filed a charge sheet in December 2012. On which the court took cognizance. Charges were framed against Enos Ekka and others in the case on 5 November 2019. After this, CBI had presented the evidence.
