Ranchi, September 16, 2026: A “Fatty Liver-Free Ranchi Campaign” aimed at the early detection, prevention and treatment of fatty liver disease will be launched in Ranchi by the end of this month. The initiative is being implemented in Ranchi as a pilot project to address lifestyle-related liver diseases.
Union Minister of State for Defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth addressed a press conference at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, on Wednesday and provided details about the campaign.
Sanjay Seth said that healthy citizens are the foundation of a developed India. He said the campaign would focus on the timely identification, prevention and treatment of fatty liver disease.
The campaign will be conducted under the guidance of Dr. S.K. Sarin in collaboration with Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi.
Under the campaign, four specialised mobile medical vehicles equipped with modern healthcare facilities will be used to screen people for alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Two advanced vehicles have already reached Ranchi, while two more will be made available soon.
The campaign has set a target of screening around 1.20 lakh people within one year. Special emphasis will be placed on identifying people at risk and providing timely medical advice.
Initial screening will be carried out with the support of ASHA workers and ANMs. The ABCD risk score will be used to identify high-risk individuals. Those requiring further assessment will be provided additional tests, specialist consultation and treatment as needed.
Around 1,000 healthcare workers from all blocks and subdivisional hospitals in the district will be trained under the campaign. Mobile medical vehicles will visit around 500 identified locations to provide screening and healthcare services.
More than 100 schools and colleges will also be connected with the campaign to create awareness among students about fatty liver prevention, healthy eating habits and a healthy lifestyle.
The campaign will not be limited to the diagnosis and treatment of fatty liver. It will also focus on educating people about the causes of the disease and ways to prevent it. People will be encouraged to follow a balanced diet, engage in regular physical activity and adopt healthy lifestyle practices.
According to the press release, a medical machine worth approximately Rs 1.10 crore has been made available, while a vehicle costing Rs 40,000 has also been provided for the initiative.
Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Amarendra Prasad said fatty liver may be associated with unhealthy eating habits and an unhealthy lifestyle. He said early detection, timely treatment and lifestyle changes can help manage the condition, while treatment can become more challenging if the disease reaches an advanced stage.
He appealed to people to undergo regular health check-ups and adopt healthy lifestyle practices.
Sanjay Seth also appreciated the work being carried out by the Sadar Hospital team and said continuous efforts were being made to provide better and modern healthcare facilities to patients at the hospital.
