In Jharkhand, a lack of awareness regarding arthritis and related conditions prevents many patients from receiving timely and appropriate treatment. Rheumatologist Dr. Vindhyachal Kumar Gupta stated that persistent joint pain, swelling, morning stiffness, or recurring joint discomfort should not be dismissed as ordinary aches. It is crucial to consult a rheumatologist immediately if such symptoms appear.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Dr. Gupta noted that specially trained experts are available to treat arthritis; with timely and correct treatment, patients can lead normal lives and avoid severe complications.
Meanwhile, placing special emphasis on women's health, Dr. Purnima stated that women need to be more vigilant about their well-being after the age of 35. She remarked that household chores alone cannot be considered adequate physical activity. To stay healthy, women should incorporate regular walking, yoga, or other forms of exercise into their daily routines.
Dr. Purnima explained that previously, it used to take several weeks to receive essential test reports, causing delays in the commencement of treatment. Now, at their center, most test reports are available within 24 hours, whereas external laboratories might take 5 to 6 days to provide the same results. She noted that timely testing and rapid reporting facilitate early diagnosis, allowing treatment to begin without delay.
Sharing his academic and medical background during the press conference, Dr. Vindhyachal Kumar Gupta mentioned that he began practicing in Ranchi after completing his super-specialty training in rheumatology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, in 2020. He secured the All India first rank in the national-level DNB examination and chose Ranchi as his base of practice with the aim of providing better healthcare services to the patients of Jharkhand.
He noted that his experience treating thousands of patients over the past five years has shown that if arthritis is detected early and treated by a rheumatologist, the condition can be significantly controlled. Conversely, delayed diagnosis and incorrect treatment increase the risk of permanent joint damage, a growing need for medication, and other serious complications.
Both experts urged people not to ignore symptoms such as joint pain, swelling, or stiffness; they advised consulting a specialist in time, undergoing regular health check-ups, and adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent serious illnesses.
