Abhay Singh: Exploitation of poor patients at its peak; government making empty claims
Treatment or Extortion at RIMS? BJP Targets Government Over Healthcare System
Ranchi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state spokesperson Abhay Singh has raised serious questions regarding the Jharkhand government's healthcare system, alleging that RIMS—the state's largest government hospital—has become a hub of corruption and illegal extortion. He stated that reports of the health department's dismal state surface almost daily, yet the government is failing to take any concrete action.
Abhay Singh remarked that poor patients are bearing the brunt of the corruption and mismanagement plaguing the health department. He alleged that patients and their families at RIMS are being subjected to extortion in violation of established rules. He claimed that despite a prescribed fee of ₹25 for the rest house, people are being charged up to ₹240—a clear instance of administrative negligence.
The BJP spokesperson noted that if this is the situation at RIMS in the capital, Ranchi, one can easily imagine the condition of other government hospitals across the state. Citing incidents such as malaria deaths in Potka and the failure of ambulances to reach patients in Hazaribagh due to the lack of roads, he asserted that the government has failed to provide adequate healthcare and basic amenities.
Targeting Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Health Minister Irfan Ansari, he said that while the government boasts of superior healthcare services, patients on the ground are facing hardships instead of receiving proper treatment. He alleged that the common people of the state have been left at the mercy of a crumbling healthcare system.
Abhay Singh demanded improvements to the healthcare system across the state—including at RIMS—along with action against corruption and the provision of better medical facilities for poor patients.
