A Remarkable Feat by a Government Hospital! High-Risk Thoracic Surgery Performed for the First Time at Ranchi Sadar Hospital
Ranchi: The capital's Sadar Hospital has created history in the medical field. A complex thoracic decortication surgery was successfully performed—a first for any government hospital in Jharkhand. By successfully operating on a critically ill patient who had come from Dhanbad for treatment, the team of doctors set a new benchmark for government healthcare services.
The patient had long been suffering from chronic empyema. He was experiencing severe breathing difficulties due to the accumulation of pus and clots around his lungs. Additionally, he suffered from a serious heart condition. For these reasons, several private hospitals in Ranchi had refused to perform the surgery. Rising to the challenge, specialist doctors at Sadar Hospital successfully performed the operation, giving the patient a new lease on life.
Notably, this complex operation—which would cost between ₹6 lakh and ₹8 lakh in private hospitals—was performed entirely free of charge at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. Diagnostic thoracoscopy and bronchoscopy were also conducted during the procedure. A remarkable improvement in the patient's condition was observed immediately after the surgery.
This historic surgery was led by Onco-surgeon Dr. Abhinav. He was supported by a team comprising Dr. Akhilesh (Surgeon), Dr. Souvik (Pulmonologist), Dr. Deepak, Dr. Aanchal, and Anesthesiologist Dr. Vikas, all of whom played pivotal roles.
Hospital management stated that the guidance and support of Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bimlesh and Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat were instrumental in achieving this success.
With this achievement, Ranchi Sadar Hospital has demonstrated that state-of-the-art, complex surgeries can be successfully performed with high quality in government hospitals as well. This milestone is being hailed as a significant achievement for Jharkhand's public healthcare system.
