New Delhi, June 24: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied 5,700 tonnes of defence-grade steel for the construction of three ships—INS Dunagiri, INS Agray, and INS Sanshodhak—recently inducted into the Indian Navy.
According to the company, DMR 249A grade hot-rolled sheets and plates for these ships were produced at the Bokaro, Bhilai, and Rourkela steel plants. The three ships were inducted into the Indian Navy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a ceremony held in Kolkata on June 21, 2026.
SAIL stated that it is working on the production of DMR-grade plates to meet the requirements of the defence sector. The company has previously supplied special steel for INS Vikrant and several warships built under Project-17A.
